INNOVATIVE, HIGH QUALITY ACTIVITIES WHICH RAISE LEVELS OF ASPIRATION AND GIVE PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES TO YOUNG PEOPLE

Special Projects

These are innovative, high quality activities which raise levels of aspiration and give professional experiences to young people.

SE1 United delivers several special projects per year which could be one off opportunities such as a Talent Showcase at the Old Vic, a film screening at Tate Modern or a fashion project with Dulwich Picture Gallery for example.

Other special projects happen annually depending on demand and funding, examples of these are:

Udderbelly Academy which involves 20 young people in event management and setting up a professional show at the E4 Southbank Centre Udderbelly venue with a group then working at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for a week. Participants have gone on to gain paid employment and access exciting opportunities in the arts after completing this course.

At the Mayor's Thames Festival 70 young people participate in designing fantastic costumes and performing in the carnival every September.

Fashion Projects where young people learn about design, production, catwalk, textiles and styling, inspired by professionals in the field. Young people have been involved in dressing for professional fashion shows, obtaining placements in styling and assisting designers.

Our Youth Oskar awards celebrate the achievements of young volunteers and inspirational peer role models from 20 youth organisations across London, bringing together young people from all backgrounds and postcodes for an evening where the stereotyping of young Londoners is challenged.
