THE SE1 INTERNATIONAL TRIP TO EGYPY FOCUSED ON DELIVERING A PROJECT THAT CONCENTRATED ON THE POSITIVE ASPECTS OF AFRICAN HISTORY

Egypt

A member of the SE1 United Youth Committee believed that the Black History that was taught to young people tended to focus solely on negative aspects of their past. As a result, he wanted to deliver a project that concentrated on the positive aspects of African history, which would culminate with a trip in February 2009 for 12 people to visit Egypt to see for themselves the way in which their ancient society was organised.

Visiting the Valley and the Kings, the Valley of the Queens in Luxor and the Museum of Antiquities as well as the Great Pyramids of Giza in Cairo, the young people were able to gain first-hand knowledge of the achievements of Africans in history, whilst also appreciating the socio-economic differences between people in Egypt and people in the UK.
