Want to find out what it's really like to be a young member of SE1 United? Here's what some of the young people who attend think...

Latifah, 19

How did you get involved with SE1?

SE1 United was recommended by a parent of a friend so I came down a few times for homework tuition and ended up staying for a few years. SE1 was really useful in keeping me engaged with school work and increasing my understanding of my school subjects.

When and why did you join?

I joined sometime in 2009 or 2008 (when it was at Living Space) because it proved to be beneficial to my studies. It was a fun and relaxed environment that was totally different from school. As I attended more frequently, I grew to learn that there was more to SE1 United than homework tuition. And it was a constructive way that I could keep in contact with my primary school friends as we went to different secondary school.

What impact has SE1 United had in your life?

I cannot imagine my life without SE1 United. I could not tell you where I would be without it but I can tell you that it has been a life changing experience. SE1 United has had a massive impact on my success in education. Without having that extra help, tuition, motivation and knowing that there was a lot of support, I do not know how I would have acquired those GCSEs and A levels. SE1 United is a place of opportunity: whatever you needed or wanted  you would get it. SE1 United is just one of those things that you have to experience because words cannot begin to depict how amazing that place is and the people who make it what it is.

What would your message be to other young people?

Stay in education. Join SE1 United and tell others to join SE1 United.
